AlphaBots Week XVII: Q is for Quark!
One of the longest running television programs in Britain is the international phenomenon known as Dr. Who. I became aware of it from the many articles about it in Starlog magazine in the 1980s. The show originally ran for 26 years starting in 1963. After that there was a telefilm in 1996, then the series went back into regular production in 2005. Eleven different actors have portrayed the Doctor over the show’s span.
I’ve never seen a single episode of this show. I have absolutely no knowledge of the franchise aside from the most basic of information: the Doctor is a time-travelling humanoid alien who jumps around the space-time continuum in a sentient interstellar vehicle called the T.A.R.D.I.S. (Time and Relative Distance in Space) which appears as a blue 1960s era police call box.
This week’s drawing is of a Quark, a robot built and used by a race of beings called the Dominators. The Quarks were used on the planet Dulkis to enslave and terrorize the indigenous population. It was the Dominators’ plan to drill bore holes through the planet’s crust and drop some stuff into the planet’s core. This would force the core to erupt, thus providing a new fuel source for their fleet.
